| The ultra modern Arbatax,
dedicated to Guido and Guidino Abbate, represents the ‘premises
of the future’; thanks to technological advances, state-of-the-art
solutions in terms of numerically-controlled production and automation
for material processing. Nevertheless, Arbatax is a company where
man remains at the centre of the manufacturing and creative processes;
engineers and specialised workers remain in charge of a processing
cycle supported by the most advanced machinery in a safe and welcoming
work environment.
The engineering and technical aspects of Arbatax were dealt with
by Water Supplyter Supply, whereas the renowned architect Willem
Brouwer looked after the style aspects. As pointed out by Brouwer:
“The realisation of Arbatax Cantieri Nautici is not only an
architectural event, but also and foremost an important occasion
for the dynamics of the social-economic fabric.
Throughout man’s history all great works have always been
a spark for the future development of a territory. Planning an architectural
representation of a company which has been so successful in the
world of boating is, naturally, a challenge. We became very involved
in trying to understand this peculiar and extraordinary phenomenon
that is Bruno Abbate-Primatist to capture the philosophy and the
reasons behind its success. I always say that a desire for beauty
and quality signifies a love for life. Beauty and style are not
synonymous with luxury, which is a rather commercial term when quality
of comfort and the proof of a culture are the elements which make
us live better while looking at the future. This is what Arbatax
is trying to convey…. Not a factory seen as a mere container
of industrial activities, but as a statement of passion, interest
and positive incentive. These are the values which differentiate
architecture from simple construction.
